- When you light a jar candle for the first time, burn for at least 3 hours, or until the melt pool completely stretches across the top of the candle. This first full burn will set the candle’s memory, and will help prevent wick tunneling in future lightings. Always let the candle burn to the edge of the container. Not letting the candle liquefy to the edge also results in tunneling.
- You may notice some mushrooming of the wick; this is completely normal for natural wicks. Treat this as a friendly reminder that you need to trim the wick. Be sure to trim wick after it cools to ¼" each time to avoid high flames and soot. This essential for a clean, smoke free burn. Many people complain about candles that smoke and this can be eliminated by trimming the wicks to ¼" inch every time you burn the candle
- Never leave a burning candle unattended! Keep burning candles away from children and pets. Do not place near flammable objects such as curtains, walls, etc. Place on a protected, heat resistant, level surface.
- Keep candle free of wick trimmings, matches, or other foreign matter that could be a fire hazard. Avoid burning in drafts. Avoid walking with lit candles.
- Allow candle to cool before trimming wick, relighting or relacing the lid on jar. Containers may become very hot, handle with care!
- Never "blow out" a candle. The most effective way to extinguish the flame of a candle is to use a candle snuffer or a wick dipper.
Glass Jar Candles
- Handle with care. Avoid glass-to-glass contact and do not use if the jar is cracked, chipped or scratched. Do not refill with wax.
- Never allow the wick's flame to touch the jar, as it can cause breakage and become hot to the touch. Handle with care.
- If the wick 'falls' or is off-center extinguish the flame, and then use a bent paper clip to re-center the wick, then relight.
- If smoking occurs, check for drafts or high traffic areas, which may cause the flame to flicker and smoke. Be sure to trim the wicks prior to lighting to ¼".
- To minimize wax left on the sides of the jar, follow the burn time suggested for your specific candle.
- To prevent possible heat damage to the counter/surface discontinue use when 1/2" of wax remains.
